Antonietta Collins
Antonietta Toni Gonzalez Collins (born in Mexico) is the Mexican American journalist. She is an ESPN news anchor and hosts SportsNation at times. She began working for ESPN as a reporter in the year 2016. She is the daughter of television reporter Maria Antonieta Collins. Antonietta was bilingual from age nine. Her skills were instrumental in helping her get her first job as a an assistant to the production team at Univision Miami in which she assisted the production of programs including Nuestra Belleza Latina and Premios Lo Nuestro Premios Juventud. In 2009, the CBS affiliate of St. Petersburg hired her after this as the sports reporter. In 2009, she relocated from Rio Grande Valley, Texas for work as an anchor for the newscast of KNVO TV 48 Univision. Spanish station KNVO TV 48 Univision and Fox2 News. Reports on her show covered immigration issues as well as drug trafficking and other issues on both the Texas as well as the Mexico border. She was also the Spanish reporter at the newscast of 5 p.m. and anchor and reporter for the newscast at 9 p.m. on English and again an anchor and reporter for the newscast of 9 p.m. in English, as well Spanish reporter for 10 p.m. The station also frequently asked her to be anchors for the weather and sports. Later, she was anchor and reporter at Univision's Dallas affiliate Deportes 23 where she was given more responsibilities. She wrote pieces on sports like the NBA, Dallas Cowboys' postseason, NBA ALDS ALCS World Series or Finals FC Dallas. Also, she produced Univision 23's local sports program Accion Deportiva Extra, on where she was anchor. She was anchor for the sports segment of Despierta America Deportes morning show. In the same capacity, she worked for Primer Impacto (a network magazine) as well as Contacto Deportivo (a UniMas Network sports channel). Antonietta's parents are originally from Veracruz Mexico. The family moved to Mexico City, where Antonietta Collins was born on November 1985. She's older than her sister. The family moved to Miami in 1992 following the departure from Mexico. Her parents divorced shortly thereafter and, in 1995, she married a naval architect named Fabio Fajardo. Fabio Fajardo died in 2006 due to kidney cancer. On a family vacation in Ohio, the younger Collins had taken a position with her older sister. Antonietta is a senior in high school but she knew exactly what career path she wanted. While deciding if Mount Union is the right choice for her, Antonietta went to visit the school. It was a beautiful campus and provided the education she sought. She finished school and attended the university as an undergraduate major in media studies. Mark Bergmann, her professor who also managed the WRMU's 91.1FM station for which she worked for a number of years, was her friend. Her professor, Mark Bergmann, inspired her by his passion for journalism. Also, he deeply affected her.
